Efficient, cost effective and safe removal of eyelid lumps and bumps.
Many people develop lumps or bumps on their eyelids, which are usually harmless and often caused by conditions such as styes (small infections at the base of an eyelash), chalazia (blockages of the oil glands in the eyelid), xanthelasma (yellowish fatty deposits linked to cholesterol), or milia (tiny white cysts). Occasionally, eyelid lumps can be due to more serious conditions, so it’s important to have them checked by a specialist.
Ophthalmologists can remove these lumps safely and efficiently. At sight surgery, for adults, the procedure is typically carried out under local anaesthetic at Milton Keynes or Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This means the area is numbed, you remain awake and go home with a patch over the eye.
For children under 16, surgery is generally performed under a general anaesthetic (GA) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital but we are happy to discuss this if you think your young adult would tolerate or wishes LA removal. Your specialist will discuss the best approach for you or your child and provide full aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
